Sterling Works. Conversion of former cutlery works (grade II Listed Building) into a Further Education College

Before I became involved in development of Sterling Works I had no experience of the construction of a building of this scale. The support and guidance I received from Tatlow Stancer Architects was exemplary. They designed a building which in both its aesthetic and functionality created the perfect environment for the college and its students. The building very deservingly was awarded a Civic Trust Design Award in 2008.

Initially I needed help with a feasibility study for the siting, funding and building of a school hall. Once the feasibility study was completed we chose the most appropriate position and were advised by Tatlow Stancer on appointing fund raisers; they designed the building, and saw the project right through to it being handed over to the school. Tatlow Stancer are a very experienced firm who have dealt with Councils for many years. They are sympathetic to the issues surrounding building on a school site, with the extremely demanding health and safety issues. Overall they were friendly, understanding, informative and appreciative that I, as client, have other demands and have little time to be involved in decision making. The service was excellent, any issues I raised were addressed quickly, efficiently and respectfully. They took the responsibility for the work off my shoulders. Efficient, friendly, protective, they listen to your needs, are strong in the way they deal with contractors and maintain your interests, ensuring that you, as the customer, get a good deal.
