ON THE BRINK COHOUSING- PHASE 1

Tatlow Stancer Architects have supported On The Brink (OTB) since 2014 with their efforts to establish a co-housing community in the heart of Nether Edge in Sheffield.

In 2015 the group took ownership of Brincliffe House, a large Victorian villa constructed in the mid-19th century as a family residence that had been converted into NHS offices during the 1970s. The practice worked closely with OTB to develop proposals for reclaiming the building and its grounds as residential accommodation.

This involved working individually with eleven members to design bespoke private living spaces, as well as work with the group as a collective to develop the communal elements of the scheme.

The conversion and refurbishment of the Victorian-era villa involved a significant overhaul of the roofspace to create additional living spaces and terraces.

Following completion of Phase 1 of the co-housing community in 2018, OTB again commissioned Tatlow Stancer Architects to develop a strategy for Phase 2, which involved the creation of new dwellings across the Brincliffe House site.
